Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my counseling session last?

Each session, including your intake session, will last approximately 50 minutes. This is considered a “clinical hour” and provides for transition time between clients.

What do I need to do before my first session?

Not much! Because I don’t bill insurance, you’ll want to check with your insurance provider to see if they provide any out-of-network benefits. Then, fill out the intake paperwork (located under the, “New Client Forms,” tab at the top of this website) and email them back to me.

How much do you charge?

Check out the “Services and Pricing,” tab for more information, but it does vary a little based on what kind of therapy session it is. For the most part, a standard counseling session will be $125, though that is also based on a client’s ability to pay.

Do you take insurance?

No, unfortunately I do not bill insurance or take insurance benefits at this time. I will provide a detailed receipt (bill) that many clients submit to their insurance companies, either to reimbursed or to count it toward their annual deductible.

How long will I need therapy?

It really depends on the person. Therapy could last anywhere from a few sessions (6 - 8) for something very brief and specific, but many people participate in therapy for years. It’s difficult to give a more specific answer. In general, clients will attend counseling sessions more frequently at the beginning of their treatment, maybe 1-2 times per week or every other week. As they continue with therapy and begin feeling better, they may come less and less frequently, such as once every 3-4 weeks.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, I do not prescribe medication. Your doctor (think family doctor or general practitioner) will be the one to consult about medication. You may also seek out a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner, as a specialist in that field. While I myself do not prescribe medication, I might suggest certain clients schedule an appointment to discuss medication options with their provider, if I notice that it could be helpful.

What days of the week do you see clients?

Currently I am working Thursday evenings, Saturdays, and every other Wednesday evening.

Do you take HSA cards as payment?

Yes. I also take cash, check, or credit card. I ask for payment at the end of each session.
